Bullying our Mayor:
Westwood Mayor Thomas Wanner
(published in Pascack Press 8/11/04):
"I have had several threats made on me and my family as a result of
this issue." (on merger w/ County Police) Fear
of police retaliation:
M.
Griston of Westwood (published in Pascack Press 8/18/04):
"We . . . should not cower behind the bleachers because the
school bully wants to beat us up. . . . I say, you who make
threats are no better than those terrorists who we are fighting all over
the world. . . .I thought long and hard about writing such a letter for
fear of retaliation from the police . . ." Over-funded
police department burdens taxpayers:
Roy
G. Jones of Westwood (published in Pascack Press 9/15/04):
"The Westwood Municipal taxes that took 24 years to double
will have doubled again in just two years. . . . it is no longer a
question of "if," but "when" my wife and I have to
leave Westwood . . . After the Mayor's . . . letter to this paper, the
police chief's first order of business should have been to find out who
made threats to him and his family, not with writing smug, self-serving
Op-Ed articles. . . .it's time that they (police) got to realize that
nothing is written in stone and that we do not owe them a sheltered,
soft, over-paid job for life."
Over-funded police
department burdens taxpayers:
Marianne Jeffreys of Westwood
(published in Community Life 10/27/04):
"There are many senior policemen . . . that receive six
digit salaries. Is their vociferous political activity due to the
concern for public safety, or concern for personal gravy trains? I
had hoped to evolve from renter to homeowner in the town of Westwood,
but I cannot afford the growing tax burden . . . To own a home, I will
have to move."
Police racism is
observed:
Genevieve Fred Myers of Westwood
(published in Pascack Press 11/10/04):
"Having lived in Westwood for over 40 years . . . I was
disheartened to hear that a gentleman and his son, who have been in my
employ for many of those years, had his van pulled over by a local
policeman after leaving my home. Nothing was out of order and . .
. he was released. This man feels that the reason for the stop was
the color of his skin!"
Filing
frivolous grievances against the Borough:
Westwood Mayor Thomas Wanner of Westwood
(published in Community Life 5/25/05, page 7):
"The agreement reached was just putting in writing what we'd
said we'd put in writing to begin with . . . It (unfair labor charge
against the Borough) was a waste of taxpayers' money."
 In
the words of the PBA #206 POLICE BULLIES:
PBA #206 Bulletin
(circa October, 2004):
" . . . their (Emerson's) Mayor gets very
uncomfortable when there is a large showing of police officers, so lets
make him as uncomfortable as we can."
